Director’s Welcome
A welcome message from Professor Boma Isabella Dambo, Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, Rivers State University.
On behalf of the management and staff of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, I warmly welcome you to our website.
Rivers State University established the Centre to answer a simple question: how can we bring quality university education to every qualified person who seeks it, whatever their location, job or circumstances? Our answer is open and distance learning: flexible, technology-enabled study, supported by carefully designed learning materials and dedicated e-tutors.
In 2026 the Centre laid a firm foundation for this work. Senate approved the CODL Policy Document. Our Governing Board was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi. We trained over one hundred lecturers, programme coordinators and e-tutors in instructional design, courseware writing and online teaching, and launched our learning platform.
Our promise to every learner is simple. You will study the same curriculum, be assessed to the same standard and graduate with the same Rivers State University degree as students on campus. You will not study alone: our e-tutors, helpdesk and counsellors will support you at every step.
I invite you to explore our programmes and short courses, and to join us as we make quality higher education accessible to all. Barriers fall. Learning rises.
